Properly Utilizing Lifting Gear and Equipment

Implementing proper safety during lifting gear and equipment use is vital to the safety of you and your employees. Without the proper knowledge in lifting practices, a person can get extremely hurt or even die from lifting related accidents. IndustrialLadder.com understands the importance of safety precautions while using lifting gear and equipment.

Lifting Gear that Requires Safety Regulations

  • Overhead position cranes
  • Lifts for motor vehicles
  • Lifting hoists
  • Forklifts
  • Any material or personnel lift

What to Do

A lifting operation is defined as anything that has to do with lifting or unloading materials using lifting equipment. If you own a business and also own lifting equipment you must provide safety regulations and adhere to manufacturer instructions of use at all times. Additionally, you must:

  • Plan lifting safety operations completely
  • Enlist only those that know how to operate machinery to its use
  • Supervise these competent individuals during lifting gear use
  • Ensure that employees adhere to safety regulations regularly

Inspection is Key

Before any lifting operation has begun, a precaution that must be taken is an inspection. The inspection should be done daily to check for any potential risk of a safety threat. Wear and tear, rust, or any other damage may create safety issues during use. If any lifting gear is deemed damaged or compromised, suspend the machinery’s use until the problem is fixed. Additionally, proper setup of equipment is imperative for inspection. Just a slight offset could make lifting procedures go awry, raising risk for lifting-related injuries during motion. Make sure that any lifting gear being used is properly setup and stable. If the machinery is used on the ground, like forklift or material lifts, make sure the surface that it sits on is level for optimum safety.

Werner Lasso System Ladder Accessories

This system is a genius idea brought to you by Werner in which tools have a lasso attached at the ends fitted for step ladder trays and Werner ladder top steps. Many accessories besides lassos can be purchased that fit into the same slots including a caddy, utility hook, bucket, paint cup liner, and ladder hook for storage.

Werner Bucket Rung Hook

Almost any painting job will require the use of a step ladder. Placing a gallon of paint on the very top of a step ladder can cause spills which are frustrating and sometimes irreversible. Werner has developed a solution: the bucket rung hook. This hook, available for positioning either on the left or right side of a step ladder, holds up to one whole gallon of paint. This hook allows you to paint hands free and not worry about spills. It is durable, made with plated steel so that it is ensured a long life full of plenty of use.

Werner AC24 Multipurpose Project Tray

This useful tray gives step ladder owners the option to hold tools, materials, and paints right on the ladder. It is easily installed and removed. The tray can be installed at multiple heights so that it can be used throughout entire jobs. It also comes with built-in Werner lasso system, in case you want to invest in that down the line. You won’t have to worry about where to store your tools while working on your step ladder ever again. This tray works on almost any Werner ladder.

Werner Ladder Casters

Have a Werner step ladder and wish to be able to add casters for easy movement? Werner supplies caster accessories for their fiberglass step ladder series.

Werner Ladders Pail Shelves

In addition to the handy multipurpose project tray, Werner ladder has come up with other tray designs specifically for painting. There are three paint trays that can be assembled onto any Werner step ladder. The first is the molded plastic pail shelf, which holds a gallon paint can and includes additional storage for paint brushes and other tools. The second tray, the universal auto closing pail shelf, remains closed until weight (like a paint can) is administered onto it. This keeps the tray out of sight and mind when not in use. This tray has additional storage provided for paint rags. Lastly, the universal pail shelf holds any size paint can and holds them in by molded insert. This tray fits both aluminum and fiberglass Werner step ladder products and is built with durable aluminum arms.

The Advantages of Werner Pump Jack Scaffolding Systems

The Advantages of Werner Pump Jack Scaffolding Systems

Werner pump jack scaffolding systems will undoubtedly give your business the access you desire for the job. Buying from IndustrialLadder.com secures the best price and quality of pump jack scaffolding on the market. The benefits of a Werner pump jack scaffolding system can enhance safety on the job site while providing mobility and convenience.

Since there are high numbers of fall-related injuries and deaths caused by ladders yearly, scaffolding is an obvious choice for safety concerns. Moving up and down a ladder at high distances with materials and equipment provides many opportunities for human error and falls. Scaffolding allows workers to move horizontally in contrast to staying in one place on a ladder. Additionally, the pump jack allows vertical movement from story to story of a structure with electricity. This means that workers don’t have to move up and down a ladder while working, providing a safer working environment.

Without having to climb up and down a ladder to pass materials and tools, the pump jack scaffolding system offers much more convenience. The motor allows easy movement vertically, while the scaffolding planks allow horizontal movement by walking. With pump jack scaffolding, there is no more up and down on a ladder to constantly get to the right place on a structure.

Using the Werner Pump Jack Scaffolding System

Before using a pump jack system, inspect the scaffolding for any signs of danger. Be sure that the poles of the scaffolding are secure and correctly installed. Before raising the platform, make sure to lock the crank handle into place. A foot pedal that is reached while the operator faces the outside pole adjusts the height. To gain height, place a foot on the pedal and rise. To lower, the foot must be lowered until the device stops when ground is reached.

The Basic Package Werner Pump Jack Scaffolding System from IndustrialLadder.com

Flooring your Attic Gives Added Storage Space

Having an attic can provide a homeowner with added storage options. An unfinished attic, however, is not capable of providing desired storage capabilities. Flooring your attic with Attic Dek flooring gives you options to turn your attic into a storage space. This easy to install and affordable choice transforms an attic from a useless space into a profitable storage area.

Easy Installation

  •      Before purchase, decipher what the size is between the joists in your attic. Attic Dek flooring offers both 16” and 24” joist spacing floor tile options for either standard size. The standard size is determined by measuring the center between the two joints of your attic.
  •      Once Attic Dek tiles arrive, determine the configuration the tiles will be installed. Many combinations can be achieved like diagonal, columns, and rows. Some even create a tile “stepping stone” combination to lead a person to a larger floored area.
  •      The first panel must be installed on center between the two joists to give the best support. Five two-inch screws inserted with power drill hold the panel in place. The next panel interlocks with the first panel and is installed the same way. Continue installation until the desired configuration is complete.

Product Features

  •      Each attic-flooring tile is lightweight for easy transportation.
  •      Flooring your attic is a one-man job with Attic Dek tiles.
  •      Cutting tiles for measuring is not necessary, and only a power drill is required for installation.
  •      The risk of joist sagging is eliminated because of its lightweight material.
  •      Not a permanent option, leaving wires, pipes, and ductwork accessible.
  •      Each tile holds up to 250 pounds, ensuring trusted steps.
  •      Supplies access to previously out of reach areas.
  •      Provides storage areas for spacing needed for organization needs.

Flooring your Attic with Attic Dek Tiles

Attic Dek flooring is the best option for transforming your attic from unusable space to a storage area. Flooring your attic doesn’t have to be a huge project or even a permanent decision. Within just 15 minutes the average Attic Dek customer installs their attic flooring. Almost instantly, you can have usable space in your attic for storage without spending thousands on materials, tools, and labor. IndustrialLadder.com offers Attic Dek storage at a competitive price. What to Practice and Know about Roofing Safety

Roofing is a job not for the faint of heart. Working from such high distances increases the probability of incidents related to falls. In fact, many injuries and deaths happen yearly due to the negligence of simple roofing safety guidelines. Practicing proper roofing safety techniques can save time off from work from fall related injury and even prevent death.

Roofing Safety Precautions

Be aware of the construction site surroundings. Remove any debris present and mark off the area to protect those walking underneath the job site. If it is a re-roofing job, inspect the building for signs of collapse. If clues to unsafety are evident, the structure should be inspected by a professional.

Roofing Safety Gear

Decipher which safety gear is necessary. Roofing safety systems include safety arrest harnesses, guardrails, and ladders. Safety arrest systems use a harness, line, and roofing anchors to allow roofers to move and work while being provided with hands-free fall protection. Guardrails can be used in roofing openings or skylights to prevent damaging falls. Ladders are used to scale a structure for roofing construction. For larger jobs, scaffolding may be required or desired for optimum access and safety. Special safety guidelines set by the OSHA and specific manufacturer instructions should be followed during scaffolding use.

Keep the Roof Clear

Many falls occur because of slips caused by excess debris and equipment. Keep tools away from work areas when not used, as they pose a tripping threat. Use a stage to store materials and give workers safe access to tools. Be aware of other hazards that may cause fall such as loose cords and nails. Debris should be safely removed during demolition to allow for a safer environment.

Consider the Weather

Wet roofs are slippery roofs, and contribute to the amount of deadly falls yearly. Don’t perform roofing work during inclimate weather, like high heat or cold. Not only do high temperatures raise the risk of danger, but roofing materials may not react well during installation and fail to hold. Along with avoiding wet roofs, wear proper footwear that allows for a slip-resistant step.

Electric Dangers

If the job is near live wiring, there is risk for electrocution. Aluminum ladders conduct electricity, while fiberglass ladders do not. If possible, avoid working around live wires entirely. Having an electrician scope the dangers before roofing if live wires are present is a necessary step.

Proper Stability for Optimum Step Ladder Safety

Most of the work incidents that are recorded throughout the United States yearly involve ladders. People for a number of reasons use ladders daily, so the risk of potential injury during use is high. Because of a ladder’s multiple and high usage globally, a ladder may not be seen as a safety threat. Be assured; ladders are not a toy and practicing proper step ladder safety could not only prevent injury but also prevent death.

Biggest Safety Concerns with Step Ladder Safety: Stability

There are many reasons for the amount of ladder accidents that happen yearly. They could attribute to over wear, incorrect angles, unleveled surfaces, or a number of other complications. One of the biggest contributing reasons for the high amount of ladder injuries is due to instability. Lateral movement is the biggest factor of step ladder safety. If your ladder is not stable and lateral movement is not braced against or prevented, falls are imminent. Knowing how to stabilize your step ladder properly can save you from injury or worse.

Step One: Inspection of your Step Ladder

Before even using your step ladder, you should be inspecting for any possible likeliness of injury. Make sure each of the pieces is not bent or broken. Also, check to be sure that rungs are non-slip and not worn to the point of breaking. The ladder should be free of any slippery substances like grease or oil. Inspection and proper awareness of your ladder can save you a lot of pain and only takes a few moments.

Step Two: Pay Attention to Base Placement

Stabilizing your ladder starts with a firm, level ground. Without a solid ground, a ladder is not secured laterally and will fall once weight is applied. Also, be sure if you put your ladder on a slippery surface that your base is prepared with non-slip molding or rubber. If you have no option for a firm, flat surface to place your ladder on, you should not be using your ladder. Once you have found your desired surface, make sure that your ladder is extended to the correct 4:1 ratio. For extension and single sided ladders, that’s one foot from the object you are scaling for every four feet of height.  If you are working with a folding step ladder be sure that it is locked in place before climbing. Be sure to check for loose debris around the base area of your ladder for safety during climbing and clearing the ladder.

Step Three: Pay Attention to the Top

Most falls that happen on ladders from lateral movement happens when a person is at the top. To prevent this, the top must be secured. To do this you can use wire, rope, or hooks to attach the top of the ladder to a sturdy part of the structure you are scaling. If you are not close to the structure or you cannot find something to tie to your ladder, you may use a ladder stabilizer. This is a ladder accessory that allows you to stabilize the top of the ladder no matter what structure you climb.
