5 Benefits of a Weather Guard Ladder Rack for Your Truck

If you have a truck, a Weather Guard ladder rack is the perfect accessory for anyone in the building, repair, or maintenance industries. Whether you are an electrician, plumber, contractor, handyman, or even just the average person that does your share of odd jobs, a Weather Guard ladder rack gives your truck added useful ability. The benefits of owning a ladder rack are many, and selecting one designed by Weather Guard, the nation’s leader in construction necessities, assures that your ladder rack will be of the highest standard.

What are the Benefits of Owning a Weather Guard Ladder Rack?

Added Storage Capabilities: Tall stepladders, extension ladders, and awkwardly shaped materials may have you riding with your tailgate open currently, but this is eliminated with the help of a Weather Guard ladder rack. Additionally, storing long materials, tools, and ladders in the bed of your truck take up precious storage room for other objects that require transportation. Elongated materials and tools will have a new place to be stored during transit, providing you with truck bed storage for other needs.

Safety: Loading lengthy materials and ladders in an open bed of a truck pose a risk to other drivers on the road. Even if you use rope, ties, or cords there is a possibility that your materials will fall into the road, putting others in danger. Ladder racks provide a safe and secure option for ladder and material transportation.

Prevents Damage: Loading and storing ladders in your truck bed will likely allow for the ladder to move, scraping paint or causing scratches to your vehicle. Also, rigging materials will heighten the risk for falls, which could ultimately damage your truck. Providing your ladder with secure transit will additionally allow for your ladder to stay in tiptop shape, extending the longevity of life for your ladder and preventing damage that may lead to injury during use. Ladder racks are a great option so that you will not have to worry about sliding, falls, or scraping during movement.

Added Convenience: Storing ladders on truck racks are quick and easy. Also, they are easily accessible so that when you need your ladder or materials, they are in reach. If you are the type to store everything you may need in your vehicle, you will no longer have to fish out the materials that are able to be stored on your truck rack.

Not Just Ladders: Weather Guard ladder racks do not only safely store ladders on your truck, but also give you the option to carry other long objects or tools that do not have a storage place otherwise. Ladder racks are great for the added storage of lumber, pipes, tools, and other materials.

What are the Types of Weather Guard Ladder Racks?

There are a few different options when deciding what kind of ladder rack you desire for your vehicle. Positioning is the main characteristic of ladder racks that you should be aware of. For example, would you like your ladder rack located over the cab, in the bed, or on a topper? Industrial Ladder provides Weather Guard ladder racks for all of these options.

WeatherGuard ATR Aluminum Truck Rack: This rack provides storage above the bed of the truck. There are options for both compact and long bed trucks. The ATR comes with ladder stopping technology so that you know when your materials are locked into place. Also, this rack has triple wall reinforcement for security and durability.

It is designed for full-size pickup trucks.

WeatherGuard Weekender Ladder Rack: Looking for a rack that you don’t have to have installed and stay installed? The Weekender Weather Guard ladder rack provides easy installation and dismount so that you can uninstall after each use. This rack is installed directly into the bed of the truck and provides a heightened area for materials. Constructed with 14-gauge heavy-duty steel, it is more than durable enough to help transport ladders and materials.

Storage Solutions: Weatherguard Truck Boxes

When working on commercial construction projects, storage, and organization of tools can save time, space, and money. Selecting a box for storage is an important decision for your business, and choosing the right storage system offers protection for expensive equipment. Preventing erosion and weather damage as well as theft is a security measure that allows for investments in equipment to truly pay off. Storage and organization allow for quick access to essential tools, speeding up construction time and allowing for the completion of more projects. Weatherguard truck boxes come in a variety of designs that can enhance your business and help with convenient and easy transfer of tools from one site to another, and from home to work.

Weatherguard Truck Boxes

Choosing the best storage system for work vehicles is an important decision. At Industrial Ladder, we offer the highest quality storage systems and tool boxes. Choosing a toolbox depends partially on the size and layout of your truck, and where you want your toolbox to be mounted. The basic types of truck toolboxes are:

  •     Saddle boxes: these toolboxes are mounted behind the cab of the truck, and either rests in the bed or are mounted to the sides to allow for storage space beneath the tool box. They usually fit over the sides of the truck bed and feature top lid access. Weatherguard saddle boxes come in aluminum or steel, with a black, white, or metallic powder-coated finish that keeps them durable for years.
  •     Dual-lid cross-box: these boxes fit horizontally across the bed of the truck, behind the cab. Weatherguard truck boxes with a dual lid allow for access to both sides of the box, and therefore allow for you to organize tools separately within the box without compromising easy and quick access.
  •     Chests: chests are a good option for people who wish to regularly use cab covers because they usually fit directly to the floor of the cab and do not rise above the sides of the truck bed. This allows for the regular use of a cab cover to protect tools and the truck bed from extreme weather elements, and it also lends greater rearview visibility. Because they fit the floor, chests do limit space in the cab of the truck.
  •      Side boxes: These toolboxes fit the side of the truck bed rather than directly behind the cab. They are available in low-side, which fit the floor of the bed, or high-side, which are mounted to the sides of the truck bed and generally leave more space in the bed of the truck. They offer easy access to tools from the side of the truck while working on a project.
  •     Underbed boxes: Available in aluminum or steel, Weatherguard under bed boxes fit under the body of flatbed trucks and offer secure storage for items out of the way of the bed of a truck. They are especially useful for utility truck storage, as they do not take up any space on the flatbed and allow for maximum use of space for transporting heavy equipment.
  •      Wheel-well boxes: Weatherguard offers “pork chop” tool boxes; otherwise known as wheel well toolboxes. These secure storage units fit into the sides of the truck bed, over the wheel wells, making use of the space above the wheels in the bed of the truck that is otherwise wasted. They are ideal for side access and for maximizing bed space in your work truck.

Choosing the Right Style

Choosing the most useful toolbox for your professional needs depends upon how you wish to utilize space in your truck. If you need side access with maximized bed space for other storage, choosing a high-side box is a good option. For people that need extra storage, choosing a saddle or crossover box along with side boxes can provide extra tool storage and still leave bed space behind the cab for tools that don’t need to be stored in a locked box. The best decision regarding truck boxes is made with daily needs and tasks in mind and depends upon the nature of your business.

Features of Weatherguard Tool Boxes

Weatherguard offers superior quality tool boxes that address space and security issues. Some of the features of Weatherguard truck boxes that make them the best choice for your business include:

  •      Limited lifetime warranties to protect your investment
  •      Powder-coat finishes that keep the toolbox durable through heavy use
  •      Tamper-resistant locks for security
  •      Optional drawers, compartments, and dividers for organization
  •      Weather-resistant latches and seals to keep tools undamaged
  •      Reinforced panels to enhance security and prevent theft

At Industrial Ladder, we pride ourselves on offering the highest-quality construction tools and accessories. Weatherguard truck boxes are state-of-the-art, modern and reliable storage systems that protect against weather damage and theft. Choosing a quality storage system for your materials and tools protects your investments and your business. Step Ladder Safety During the Holiday Season

Step ladders are used in businesses and homes every day to accomplish a variety of tasks. During the holiday season, many families use a step ladder at home to hang decorations, such as Christmas lights and displays. In order to make sure the holidays go off without a hitch, ladder safety is very important. Failing to implement safety measures, especially during the holiday season when there may be icy conditions, frozen ground, or sleet and snow, can result in serious and sometimes permanent injury.

When beginning a project that requires the use of ladders, selecting the best equipment for the job is the first task. Step ladders are most commonly used for household projects, and they come in a variety of sizes.

Step Ladder Choices

  •      Fiberglass step ladders
  •      Aluminum step ladders
  •      Twin front ladders
  •      Step ladder extensions (aluminum or fiberglass)

Depending upon the project, fiberglass and aluminum ladders offer different benefits. Fiberglass ladders are more expensive than aluminum ladders, but they are sturdier and hold up better in inclement weather. They also do not conduct electricity and can be more safely used around electrical sources such as power lines. For these reasons, fiberglass ladders are a great choice for long-term construction projects or for commercial purposes, or for projects that will be done in icy or rainy conditions.

Aluminum ladders are less expensive than fiberglass ladders, and they are lighter and easier to move during the course of your project. Although they are less resistant and more pliable than fiberglass ladders, aluminum ladders are a good option for a project that requires a lot of movement, such as hanging Christmas lights.

Both options have advantages, depending upon the project you are working on. For a short-term project, such as seasonal decorating, aluminum ladders may be your best option due to their mobility and less expensive price tag. However, if you plan on using your ladder year-round for a variety of projects, a fiberglass ladder is a good option.

Safety on Step Ladders

Ladder safety is always paramount, but during the holiday season, there are extra safety measures that are important to implement.

Step ladder safety during the holidays:

  •      Winter weather brings snow and icy conditions in many parts of the country. Never place a ladder on top of ice, snow, or salted surfaces, as this may cause the ladder to move or slip while in use.
  •      Many people enjoy a cocktail during the holiday season with family and friends. Never operate a ladder or any other construction equipment after consuming alcohol- save the celebratory eggnog for after your project is completed!
  •      Distractions can be hazardous and deadly. While working on your step ladder, make sure to stay focused on the task at hand.
  •      Checking out the Christmas lights once the sun goes down is a festive tradition for many, but make sure you complete your project during daylight hours so that you have optimum visibility.
  •      When working with a lot of equipment, or bulky decorations such as strings of lights, a tool belt is useful in order to keep your hands free and maintain balance.

As always, safety during work is a priority. When using a ladder, especially during the winter season, following safe protocol and using the correct equipment is vital in order to avoid an injury that could spoil this festive time of year. At Industrial Ladder, we supply all of the equipment and safety tools for ladder usage necessary for any seasonal or year-round personal or commercial project. For information about or products or to order, call us at 1-800-833-0800.

Tips to Adhere to for Step Stool Safety

Since step ladders are a household item, they are used quite frequently. This increased use provides increased risk for injury to occur by way of falling. To prevent injury, there are a few safety precautions that should be followed before using your step stool. Practicing step stool safety can greatly increase your odds for not obtaining injury when performing household tasks.

What is a Step Stool?

A step stool is a small step ladder that is self-supportive with four legs. To be considered a step stool, the device must open and close, be non-adjustable in height, be easily portable, and be less than 32 inches in total height. They are many options when it comes to step stools when it comes to design and functionality. Before deciding which one is best for you and your home, browse our selection of step stools online.

Tips for Step Stool Safety

  • Always be sure that the ground that you place your step stool on is level. If all four feet are not stable, the risk of fall related injury is much greater.
  • Before every use, make sure that the step ladder that you are using is completely open. This means that the spreaders are locked in place so that the ladder is stable enough to stand on without causing a fall.
  • Bending or leaning may be tempting to get a good reach when on a step stool, but this accounts for many of the fall related injuries that occur during step stool use. Be sure to keep your body parallel with the vertical positioning of the step stool during its use. Additionally, stand near the middle of the stool rungs as much as possible to prevent injury.
  • Do not move the step stool while you are still on it. Always descend any ladder before repositioning. Additionally, do not attempt to scale the step stool from the side or the back. Only climb a ladder facing its front. Use any ladder only for its intended purpose if you wish to refrain from attaining injury.
  • Inspect the feet of the step stool before use to make sure anti-slip protection is evident. Additionally, do not use any ladder on wet, icy, or slippery surfaces.
  • To ensure step stool safety, never attempt to lengthen the height of your stool by placing it on top of boxes or other equipment.
  • Children should not be left unsupervised around a step stool. To prevent child accident, never leave an open step stool unattended.

When Should a Ladder Cage be Implemented?

Ladders are used daily to scale multiple amounts of objects for various jobs. In some instances, there needs to be a permanently placed ladder to give direct access to an area that can only be reached by a ladder. In these cases, safety requirements call for the use of a cage for certain heights. A ladder cage is a good way to prevent fall-related accidents while getting on and off of ladders.

Why Do I Need a Ladder Cage?

Ladders that are extended up into the air with no form of protection need some type of fall protection. That’s where ladder cages come into play. They provide added support for people that are getting onto the ladder from above or entering the highest section of a ladder on a structure. OSHA requires that any fixed ladder that reaches higher than 20 feet must have a cage attached to the loading area.  Additionally, if your ladder is taller than 20 feet, the cage must meet all the standards that the OSHA requires.

Just like a guardrail, a cage for a fixed ladder must be located at least 42 inches over the top of the landing. The bottom of the cage must have at least a 4-inch flare to make the entrance bigger than the midsection for easier access. If you want to implement a ladder cage on a fixed ladder that is shorter than 20 feet, or you wish to implement a cage throughout the entire ladder, the bottom of the cage must be higher than 7 feet off the ground. This gives enough room for an individual to enter the caged area without attaining injury.

The Few Exceptions to OSHA Ladder Cage Rules

Like with any rule, there are a few exceptions. The only circumstances that do not require a ladder cage on a fixed ladder higher than 20 feet is  a water tower, water tank, and chimney structure. In these instances, safety precautions can be used in exchange for a ladder cage. These safety features include rope grabs, lifelines, and harness systems. If you are looking for safety precaution equipment for these exceptional circumstances, IndustrialLadder.com can provide you with all of your height safety needs.

Buying a Fixed Ladder with Cage

If you are in need of a fixed ladder that reaches higher than 20 feet, IndustrialLadder.com can provide you with a caged Cotterman ladder that fits all of your needs. Our longest walk-through caged ladder can reach up to 32 feet. These ladders provide the most durable and long-lasting fixed ladder experience that you can find on the market. Constructed with steel, these ladders will be all you will ever need to buy to access the height you need on a fixed structure. Visit our website to browse our list of options.
