Store and Transport it All with Truck Storage Accessories

A truck and tools are both required for many construction jobs. As time passed, you may have acquired your fair share of tools, and your truck may seem to have gotten smaller and smaller. Don’t leave anything at home that you may find you need during a job. Take it all with the utilization of truck storage accessories.

Ladder Rack Truck Storage Accessories

For any type of job that requires a ladder, a ladder rack offers an easy, safe, and worry-free way to transport a ladder. This provides more room in your truck bed for other equipment. Additionally, depending on the type chosen, ladder racks can be used to transport lengthy and larger materials, as well as ladders. This keeps the wear off your truck when it would otherwise lead to damage during transit. Ladder rack options include ones that only sit on the cargo area, over the bed of the truck, or one side of the truck (either driver or passenger side). The benefits of owning a ladder rack include:

  • Driver safety: Instead of having to drag your ladder around other equipment from your truck bed, you can safely remove the ladder located on the ladder rack safely. Additionally, ladder racks keep ladders and other equipment in place during transit, when simply storing them within the bed does not. This means that if anything were to happen like a vehicle accident, the ladder is less likely to cause damage to you or another passenger.
  • More storage space: Once you get your ladder out of your truck bed, you will have more room to store other items, equipment, and tools. Since the ladder rack can accompany other objects as well, you’ll have the option to store awkwardly shaped items out of sight and harm from other stored objects.
  • Easy to use: Ladder racks just simply make transporting ladders and other materials easier since they do not have to be retrieved from the bed or cargo area of a van or truck. Each ladder rack purchased from Industrial Ladder is easily accessible and usable to make your ladder storage a breeze.
  • Vehicle protection: The hard metal materials used in the development of ladders can harm the paint and interior of your truck. Keep your vehicle in the shape it is by investing in a ladder rack that will keep moving materials from scraping and bumping your vehicle walls.

If you are interested in seeing what types of ladder racks there are that fit your van or truck, visit our website to see the many different options available to you through the vast inventory of Industrial Ladder & Supply Company.

Weatherguard Truck Tool Boxes

Looking for truck storage accessories that can store your loose materials and tools? The Weatherguard brand truck boxes are the most commonly purchased type of truck storage available on the market. These anti-theft steel boxes have compartments meant to hold your tools into place during a long road trip. Additionally, they come in a number of different sizes and styles to match many brands of trucks and personalities of individuals. Available in both black or a shiny chrome powder coat finish, each design is made to be beautiful throughout its entire life of use. Make sure that your vehicle, passengers, and tools are safe during transit and storage with the investment of a Weatherguard Defender series truck box. View the options available for you and your vehicle on our website today.

Dri-Dek Waterproof Flooring

For a slip resistant and waterproof storage space in the bed of your truck, consider installing Dri-Dek flooring. This flooring will give your tools a place to rest during transit so that they do not fly around and cause damage to themselves, other tools, or your vehicle. The waterproof design allows wet materials to dry and keeps other tools dry by channeling liquid to the surface below the flooring. The flooring can be installed and removed within minutes, as the tiles click into place. With varying styles, sizes, and colors, there is Dri-Dek flooring for the bed of any pickup truck.

Safely and Effectively Using a Supported Scaffolding System

Supported scaffolding provides many benefits for construction companies and workers on numerous types of jobs, but they do pose a threat to falls and injury if a person utilizes the system without knowledge of proper safety precautions and use. Fortunately, the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) places guidelines for workers that wish to utilize the advantages of supported scaffolding systems so that the number of these incidents is reduced each year. Before purchasing and utilizing a supported scaffolding system, find out what OSHA requires and suggests for the safe operation of this equipment.

What is a Supported Scaffolding System?

Supported scaffolding is any scaffolding unit that is supported by means of beams, poles, framing, legs, brackets, or anything else that keeps the structure supported during use. Support of the scaffolding system is braced into place to keep the structure from tipping or swaying during use. They are useful in a number of jobs including framing, siding, gutter work, painting, roofing, window installation, and much more.

Training to Use a Supported Scaffolding System

Any person who needs to use a supported scaffolding system must be trained in the proper safety procedures and use of the unit. The individuals that perform training of scaffolding safety and use must be a “qualified person”, or someone who understands the hazards that are presented during scaffolding use and is aware of how to prevent their risks. Training for supported scaffolding use must include:

  • Hazards presented by falling off of scaffolding
  • Hazards presented by falling objects while using scaffolding
  • Hazards presented by electricity while using scaffolding
  • Utilization of scaffolding safely
  • Safe handling of equipment and materials while using scaffolding

Examples of Supported Scaffolding Systems

Pump Jack Systems: This supported scaffolding is the newest in technological advancements for scaffolding. They are easy to install, operate, and break down. They can be adjusted to different heights or made for bigger jobs with the purchase of additional components. Adjustments are made easy with the help of a pump jack, an electrical switch manually operated by a person by foot to lower or raise the walk boards of the entire system. Whichever size or capability you need, a Werner pump jack scaffolding system can be developed to perform for a lifetime.

Aluminum Scaffolding: The most common type of supported scaffolding is an aluminum system. Werner provides this type of scaffolding for any type job, as add-ons can be made to an entire system to reach desired heights. For standing and work room, choose between platforms that offer different rated safety ratings, depending on weight of materials and personnel. Whatever size job, a Werner aluminum scaffolding system can offer the support needed.

Safety During Supported Scaffolding Use

OSHA requires that any scaffolding higher than 10 feet requires the utilization of fall protection safety gear. To accomplish fall protection, a lifeline and harness system can be worn. This protects workers as the last line of action if a fall were to ever take place. There are many types of fall arrest harness systems, but one meant for use on scaffolding will have an attachment with a D-rung on the back of the harness, like the Werner Blue Armor 2000 series. Although scaffolding is supported and backed by bracing and framing, there are often times set up or inspection is overlooked and unnecessary injury occurs. Don’t be another occupational injury statistic, wear the correct safety gear when working on a supported scaffolding system.

Adapting to the Job: Werner Ladder Types to Choose From

When using a ladder, the most important thing to think about is safety. Hundreds of ladder accidents occur each year, and many results in lifelong injuries or even fatalities. Many of these accidents could have been prevented if only the proper ladder was selected for the job. Don’t overlook the importance of choosing ladder types specifically designed for determined jobs or settings; it could mean your life.

Werner Ladder Types to Choose From

Werner Step Ladders- One of the most commonly utilized ladder types used for jobs is a step ladder. This is your A-frame ladder used for indoor projects like painting or other small height jobs. It allows for a single person to stand and perform work tasks. Many options include tool trays on top, allowing for help carrying tools or pails of paint to make work hands-free while using the ladder. Material options include aluminum and fiberglass, both highly durable and long lasting selections. Werner step ladders come in sizes from 4 to 12 feet and offer weight capacity ratings of up to 300 pounds.

Werner Extension Ladders- This ladder type is meant for outdoor jobs because they can reach great heights. They are designed to be leaned against the structure that is to be ascended, so they only consist of a single side. They are either developed of two or three sliding sections that extend to the desired height and lock into place. This makes transit easier as they are meant to compact to a smaller size while not being utilized. Some designs are comprised of a rope and pulley system, meant to make carrying objects and equipment to the work area safe and easy. Also, many accessories can be added to Werner extension ladders to make their use safer and more efficient. Both aluminum and fiberglass materials are available and offer lengthy lifespans and durable strength. Werner extension ladders come in options up to 40 feet in height at most extended reach, making almost any job possible.

Werner Step Stools- For around the office, home, or garden, you’ll need a sturdy step stool for the every day out of reach tasks. This is where step stool ladder types come in handy. Providing up to 375 pounds of safety weight rating, they can be used by anyone for virtually any task a few feet out of reach on ground level. There are a few different options to choose from when it comes to styles; miniature a-frame, three step, and platform step stool options are available, depending on your need and the job function. Either way, whichever stool you choose will give you an easily storable and transportable way to reach your project tasks.

Werner Platform Ladders- This type of ladder resembles the standard A-frame step ladder, with one major difference. Each design incorporates a platform located in between rungs of the ladder, offering additional work room for materials and tools or a safer and wider area to stand to perform tasks higher up. Platforms also add protection from falls while working hands-free by providing guard rails around the platform for stability. With different heights and weight capacities to choose from, there is a Werner platform ladder for everyone.

Werner Multi-Purpose Ladders- Multi-purpose ladders are just that; used for multiple purposes. Each design is built to offer multiple functions or function in settings other ladders cannot. For example, some multi-purpose ladder designs offer functionality on unstable surfaces such as stairwells. Other multi-purpose ladders provide multiple ladder type functionality such as both extension and step ladder options.

What to Consider Before Performing Attic Stair Replacement

If you are worrisome about putting your weight on your attic stairs, it’s time to replace them. Damaged attic stairs can be a hazard not only to you, but your family as well. Not only do they present a potential risk for fall-related injuries, an outdated or improperly installed attic stair can put your entire house at risk. It’s important to be up to date on fireproof attic stairs, since many house fires begin in the attic or garage of a house and spread through old and non-fire resistant attic stairways. If you are preparing to perform attic stair replacement in your home, there are a few things to consider first.

Measuring and Planning for Placement

When you purchase an attic ladder, it will be ready to fit into the framing of the attic opening right away. This means that you need to measure the existing framing before you make a decision on the type and style of attic stair replacement you need. If you are replacing the stairs because you would like a larger opening, you are going to have to replace the framing of the opening before you can install the stairs. Deciding on framing for your attic opening will depend on the framing of your attic. If it is framed with rafters, you can get away with enlarging the current opening or creating a new attic entrance. However, if your attic is framed with a truss system, you may require the help of a roofing professional to get a safe and accurately measured attic opening cut. Above all else, inform yourself on the measurements that you are going to need to utilize based on the instructions of the attic stair replacement you have or intend to purchase.

Planning on Spacing Before Attic Stair Replacement

If you have your heart set on a bigger opening, but the spacing is too small, you’re going to have trouble utilizing your new attic stairway. The bigger the attic stairway opening, the bigger the attic stair. Firstly, make sure that when extended, your attic stairway has enough space to completely extend without any intrusions. This also means that you will have enough space to comfortably mount and dismount the ladder. Secondly, make sure that within your attic, there is space for a comfortable landing area where you can enter the attic with or without equipment in hand. Finally, make sure that when extended and in use, the attic opening offers enough room to walk underneath without bumping your head. A tight fit could lead to a fall-related injury if you do not give enough room in all these places!

Size of the Attic Stair Replacement

Before even selecting the attic stair replacement, measure the length of where the ladder will reach, from the opening to the floor surface. Additionally, after your opening is set, measure what width your attic stair replacement needs to be. Purchase an attic stair replacement that is lengthy and wide enough to accommodate the spacing. You don’t want to purchase a ladder that you find doesn’t even reach the ground after installation!

Kind of Attic Stair Replacement

Aside from making sure install goes well, you’ll need to make the decision about what kind of attic stair replacement you’ll want in your home. There are a number of different features, materials, and style to choose from. If safety is your number one concern, make sure to choose a ladder with a high fire rated safety standard. This will protect your home from spreading fire in case of an emergency. Additionally, depending on the attic’s placement, you may require a specialty type ladder. Is your attic accessible from a loft or extremely tight area? You may wish to invest in a scissor type attic stair replacement to make access to your attic easier. Lastly, make sure that you know what is most important to you in terms of added features before purchase, so that your attic stair replacement does all that you need it to!

Check out all the different brands, types, materials, ratings, and styles of attic stair replacements on our website! Order today to have your new attic stair delivered right to your home! Setting Up your Werner Extension Ladder for Use

If you have recently purchased a Werner extension ladder, or are thinking of investing in one of these lengthy devices, it’s a good idea to learn how to properly set it up for use to prevent injury. Hundreds of individuals die each year from falling off ladders both at home and work, and most of these incidents could have been prevented if proper ladder use and safety were taken into account. Don’t be another statistic this year; learn how to safely set up and use an extension ladder before you attempt the job at hand. Follow these steps for a safe and effective way to use your Werner extension ladder!

Selecting the Right Werner Extension Ladder

Imagine trying to use a screwdriver for a job that requires a hammer. The screwdriver is likely not to prove itself helpful and also increase the risk for a forced injury. Ladders are the same way. If you select a ladder meant for a specific application and utilize it for another, you put yourself at risk for unnecessary injury. Choosing the right ladder sets you up for success since each is safety rated for specific applications. Extension ladders are developed for higher jobs since they can reach great heights. The Werner extension ladder that you select for the job should extend 4 feet from the highest point of the structure you intend to ascend, so be sure to select a ladder that is lengthy enough for the job at hand. Additionally, each ladder has a set weight capacity. This number includes your weight plus the weight of any equipment you will take with you while using the ladder.

Inspecting the Ladder and the Job Site

Now that you have the right ladder for the job, you’ll need to inspect both the ladder and the potential site of ladder use. Be sure that the ladder you have selected is in good working condition. This means that there is no damage, bending, or erosion. If you find that the ladder is damaged, do not use it! Either have it repaired or replaced before continuing with the project. Once you are sure that your ladder is in good working condition, check the area that you intend to utilize the ladder. Account for any wiring that may be hazardous while performing the task. If there is wiring, make sure that they are not live or utilize the proper safety equipment to ensure the prevention of electrocution. Additionally, make sure that the surface that your ladder rests upon is level. An unlevel surface can cause unexpected falls during your ladder use, so make sure that your ladder is placed on a ground that is unmoving, leveled, and secure. Lastly, check your local weather if your project is outside. Postpone the ladder use until the weather is not a hazard to your safety. All in all, use common sense while setting up and preparing to utilize your ladder. Better to be safe than sorry!

Proper Werner Extension Ladder Setup and Use

Extension ladders are single-sided, meaning that they have to be rested upon the structure you intend to ascend. If the extension ladder is not set up properly, it can easily lead to a fall. Proper extension ladder setup begins with propping the ladder up against the structure. Set the feet of the ladder against the wall and stand at the top of the ladder, holding the unit above your head and moving toward the structure to rest the ladder against the building. Once it is propped against the structure, you’ll need a safe standing angle before you can climb. OSHA requires a 4 to 1-foot ratio for extension ladder setup, meaning for every 4 feet your ladder is tall, 1 foot of spacing should be allowed measured from the wall to the feet of the ladder. A simple method to accomplishing the safe angle for setup is to stand with your toes touching the feet of the ladder and extend your hands to the rung nearest your shoulder height. A Proper angle would allow for your fingers to touch the rung while your feet are planted touching the ladder’s feet.

How to Select Effective Fall Arrest Equipment

Fall arrest equipment is required for any job that is higher than a certain measurement based on OSHA standards. For general construction, fall arrest equipment is required for anything over 4 feet, and on scaffolding fall arrest equipment is required for anything over 10 feet. A safety harness and accessories are required because they are effective at providing the safety that workers need in case of slip or fall. If you require the use of fall arrest equipment on a jobsite, it is imperative to select the harness that is right for the job at hand so you stay safe and comfortable at all times.

Parts Needed for Complete Fall Arrest System

Roofing Anchor: Your fall arrest equipment has to have something to tie to, providing the support if ever there were a fall. Anchors can either be permanent or temporary, based on how often fall arrest safety is needed for a specific setting. There are a number of different styles for roofing anchors, which can all be found on our website.

Connecting Devices: Depending on the fall arrest system use, you will require either a lanyard, horizontal lifeline, vertical lifeline, or rope grab. These are the parts of fall arrest equipment that attach to both the harness and the anchor. Their job is to provide shock resistance and hold the individual using the fall arrest system until they can get to safety. Lifelines can be self-coiled or hand operated, depending on the job at hand.

Harness: The most defining part of a fall arrest system is the harness. This is the accessory that works to hold a worker in the air, offering support around the midsection and legs mostly. A harness should be individualized based on an individual’s size, so they should be purchased for single person use. Use of a harness depends on D-rung location. The D-rung is the part of a harness that attaches to the connecting device, so it affects the positioning and use of fall arrest equipment.

Different D-Rung Harness Placement for Different Jobs

Standard Harness: Your standard fall arrest harness will include a D-rung placed on the back, making jobs at high distances safe to perform. A standard harness can be used with rope descent, rope grab, and lifeline systems.

Climbing Harness: For jobs that include lots of climbing vertical lengths, a climbing harness is best. These include D-rung placement on the front of the harness, allowing for a fall away from the structure being climbed for safe landing. Front D-rung placement makes it easier to utilize a rope grab connecting device if that is what you prefer.

Positioning Harness: These harnesses are used in high jobs that require hands-free movement. The D-rungs are located on the hips, allowing attachment from either or both sides. They are otherwise referred to as ventral harness systems.

Retrieval Harness: For the fall arrest rescue or for drops in enclosed spaces like a stairwell, you may need the use of a retrieval type harness. These have D-rungs located on both shoulders, offering connection from above.

Construction Belt Harness: Much like a positioning harness, this type offers D-rung support from the hips. The different is a construction belt, offering alternative attachment options, supportive padding, and accessory placement.
